Golf Courses

Golf courses, footgolf courses and pitch and putt courses across the Wirral

CUSTOMER UPDATE

26th May 2020

As the national lock down starts to ease, the council is working as quickly as possible to re-establish services that are permitted to reopen, including Golf courses. Speed cannot be our only consideration at this time.

The health, and the safety, of our communities, businesses and staff has to be our top priority during this process.

We are keeping watch on the infection rate in Wirral and across Merseyside to make sure anything we do does not contribute to raising it.  This means we have to make slow and steady decisions that are thought through.

Our staff may not be readily available to re-establish their service. Apart from the fact that we have some staff who are having to shield to keep themselves safe, a number of others have volunteered to work on priority services while their own areas were temporarily closed, such as the emergency food hub and resident helpline.

We can’t, and indeed we won’t, take a staff member away from a service supporting vulnerable people until we can ensure there is someone else to step in.

We are a public service – in fact we’re a collection wide ranging public services – we can’t operate in the same way as a private club or business.

We know many of you are keen to get back to those services you regularly use, we appreciate this, and we promise we are doing our best.

Thanks for your understanding

Golf Facilities Across Wirral

Our golf courses across the Wirral are suitable for golfers of all abilities, whether you’re a budding pro or looking for a social game with friends, one of our courses will suit you requirements. We have three 18 hole courses in Hoylake, Brackenwood and Arrowe Park and a seaside 9-hole course in The Warren. For more information on our courses click links below.

Reasons to Play Golf

  1. Enjoy being outdoors. Golf courses are almost always well maintained, so you can enjoy playing the game on grass someone else has mowed.
  2. All ages and skill levels can play golf together. You don’t have to rely on your golfing buddies to return the ball. You’ll play side by side as you work your way down the fairway.
  3. Golf is good for your competitive spirit. Keep score and don’t forget to count every putt.
  4. Business deals are conducted every single day on a golf course. Where else can you actively play a sport and not be too out of breath to seal the deal?
  5. Golf is a challenging sport. Many professional golfers admit that it’s a game of misses, so no one is perfect and everyone has room to improve.
  6. The exercise factor is high. Whether you walk the course or take a cart, you’re still moving and getting a workout without too much effort. Just try not to drink more calories than you burn up.
  7. Camaraderie is easy on the golf course. You can hang out with old friends and make new ones on the course then back at the snack bar afterward.
  8. Golf is a great family activity. Teach your kids how to play and you’ll always have a golf buddy.
  9. The game of golf is a great character builder. Since it can be frustrating at times, you’ll have plenty of practice learning to control your temper and being a good sport.
  10. Golf is just downright fun. If there’s no other reason to play, do it in the name of having a good time.

Golf Update 26.05.20:

As the national lock down starts to ease we at Wirral Golf are working as quickly as possible to re-open our facilities. Your understanding and patience is greatly appreciated during these difficult times whilst we try to implement the necessary changes to ensure our sites are safe to use.

Whilst we endeavour to open the facilities as quickly as possible, speed cannot be our only consideration at this time.

We are a public service – in fact we’re a collection wide ranging public services - we can’t operate in the same way as a private club or business.

In the next few days we will be releasing guidance around how to access our facilities and processes that will need to be adhered too that ensure a safe environment for all.

We know many of you are keen to get back playing golf, we appreciate this and we promise we are doing our best. We thank you for your understanding.

Stay safe

We know you are keen to get back to golf, we are too. We have been reviewing our processes, creating guidelines and working hard in the background with Wirral’s Public Health Team to ensure that we have all the measures in place when we do reopen to protect both golfers and the safety of our staff.

We will be bringing you an update next week on the future reopening of the courses. In the meantime please bear with us as protecting our customers is our main priority right now and we hope to see you soon, socially distancing of course 😊

Announcement

All Wirral Council’s golf courses, and the sailing centre will remain closed temporarily.

We have been reviewing the detail from Central Government on reopening certain services. We are working hard behind the scenes to get everything ready, as quickly as we can, while keeping the safety of our staff, residents and customers at the heart of what we do.

Please bear with us while we do this work and look out for updates on our website, social media and information at each site.

We will look forward to welcoming you back as soon as we can.
